The Essential Facts of Backgammon Game Plans – Part Two
June 24th, 2023 by Claudia

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and good luck. The aim is to shift your checkers safely around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opposition shifts their pieces toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player chips moving in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at particular instances. Here are the two final Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the aim of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to move her pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get hit, or result a damaged position if he at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. After you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of your competitor, your competitor doesn’t even get a chance to toss the dice, and you shift your checkers and roll the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game technique are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to boost your odds of winning, however the Back Game plan uses seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is often employed when you are far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this plan, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the checkers are relocated is partly the result of the dice toss.
