The Essential Facts of Backgammon Strategies – Part 2
February 6th, 2023 by Claudia

As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and good luck. The aim is to move your pieces safely around the board to your inner board while at the same time your opposition shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers moving in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at specific instances. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any activity of the opponent by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get hit, or result a battered position if he at all attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anyplace between point two and point eleven in your game board. After you have successfully built the prime to prevent the activity of your opponent, the competitor does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your pieces and roll the dice again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions in hope to improve your chances of winning, but the Back Game strategy relies on seperate techniques to do that. The Back Game technique is commonly used when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This plan is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are moved is partly the outcome of the dice toss.
