The Essential Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part Two
September 19th, 2021 by Claudia

As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of talent and pure luck. The goal is to move your pieces safely around the game board to your inner board while at the same time your opposing player shifts their chips toward their inside board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers shifting in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific techniques at specific instances. Here are the last 2 Backgammon plans to finish off your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their chips, the Priming Game plan is to absolutely stop any movement of the opposing player by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a battered position if he/she ever attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anywhere between point two and point eleven in your half of the board. As soon as you’ve successfully assembled the prime to prevent the activity of your opponent, the competitor does not even get to roll the dice, and you move your chips and toss the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The objectives of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions in hope to improve your odds of winning, but the Back Game technique uses alternate techniques to do that. The Back Game tactic is frequently utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To participate in Backgammon with this plan, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your chips and how the chips are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
